SEALANTS

Tooth preserving treatments

The objectives of restorative dentistry: restore the void left in cavitated (carious) teeth with foreign material; treat pulp injuries due to caries; preserve, with root canal therapy, those teeth, which have infected pulp.

Preventive Measures

The goal is to prevent caries. This can be achieved by satisfactory oral hygiene, proper chewing, and sealing the fissures of the recently erupted teeth. Soon after the eruption of new teeth (around the age of six), we fill the deep fissures between the cusps of the teeth with white sealant. This procedure covers the surface that is most prone to caries with a special protective layer. This special material protects the teeth fromcaries formation for a couple of years. During teenage years the occlusal surface, later the approximal, and at old age thecervical part of the teeth near the gum are at risk of caries.

The treatment

The completely painless treatment's objective: if we determine after the eruption of the tooth that the fissures are deep, we seal them with special white material that is cured with a UV lamp. This material hardens to UV light, sealing the teeth with a protective layer, resulting in a completely smooth surface which prevents the formation of caries. The treatment is completely painless, and requires no anesthesia. We recommend yearly follow-ups following the procedure. If after a few years the fissures discolor, the old, thinned out sealant will be removed entirely and replaced using the same procedure.
