COSMETIC TREATMENTS - IPL LASER TREATMENT

High technology in IPL treatment

The recent tools suitable for flash-light treatments offer new, great and enormously expanding possibility on the areas of permanent epilation, skin regeneration and treatments of acne, mole and vascular deformations.

The permanent epilation is the most frequent and quickly spreading procedure. At least 90% of the Western European and American women use some kind of epilation regularly - e.g. shaving, resin, depilating creams, electrolysis and epilation by laser. There are a lot of disadvantges of the before mentioned procedures; they are painful, slow, complicated, they have only interim effects or expensive. The new iPulse i200 technology provides a solution for elimination of the above listed disadvantages.

Recently a lot of our patients asked why Ars Medica Laser Clinic does not extend its activity to this area utilizing its 15-year experience. Up till now we have not tried to expand our activities on this area because on one hand in our opinion such cosmetic treatments are incompatible with the activities of such a clinic which makes surgical actions and on the other hand we have not found the right tool suitable for the correct solution of the above mentioned problems. But our opinion has changed because we could find the right tool and technology which can guarantee the best result and thus Ars Medica Laser Clinic can undertake these treatments, too. During studying the tool and the activity it appeared that it could be a great advantage for the patient if these treatments will be made in a clinic by the help of a medical background. Because the detailed examination before the treatment - which covers not only the treated area but other diseases of the patient, too (e.g. diabetes, hormonal diseases, etc.) - and the early recognition and special treatment of allergic responses and complications arising during the treatment or after it demands the medical background. If it is available it is an advantage not only for the patient but for the one making the treatment, too.

The newly established activities meet the regulations of the quality policy and the operation of the clinic therefore its documentation is a bit more detailed than that o fan average cosmetic treatment (e.g. photo documentation), but our principle is that there are no small or big surgical actions, the conditions and documentation of all the medical action should be prepared accurately because it provides satisfaction to everybody. This is the common denomination of the method when short flashing lights originating from Xenon flashing lamp are used for the treatments. The energy of light is absorbed by melanine located in the hair, it is converted to thermal energy and if the temperature reaches 70 degree of Centigrade in the follicule it kills the hair generating cells and hair generation in that fullicule ceases definitively. In case of haemangiomas the light is absorbed in haemoglobin of the blood and puts out its effect while in case of moles it is absorbed in the melanine.

The earlier high performance IPL machines used alternate current for supplying the Xenon lamp thus the spectrum of the emissioned light changed because of the change of the current intensity. Beside the visible light the spectrum contains ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) wavelengths, too. Since these wavelengths are "harmful" from the point of view of the treatment, they should be eliminated from the system. In the earlier machines colour filters were used to prevent the emission of harmful radiation from the treating head. In turn it causes significant energy loss therefore the energy emitted by the machines should be enhanced which eventuates the improvement of heat loading of the skin. Therefore the heat sense also rises. The iPulse technology uses square-pulse current therefore the spectrum of the emitted light will be constant because of the constant current intensity. Thus the machine can be operated at a lower energy level with significantly smaller surrounding heat load. Moreover the use of expensive and complicated colour filters will not be required because only the light with optimal wavelenght will be emitted by the machine. Some IPL systems can produce several impulses during one "shot" which permits the decrease of the temperature of the skin between the impulses while the temperature increses in the target structure (e.g. fullicule). THis is a more complicated technology which results in higher temperature in the target structure without redundant warm of the surrounding skin.

The iPulse i200 technology is the most advanced and most regulated flash-type technology nowadays. By the help of the computer it can produce single or triple combined impulses. In the multiple impulse mode the length of the individual impulses and the interval between the impulses can be adjusted. The several adjustment variations make it possible to find the ideal adjustment combination for every patient which provides the adequate warm up of the target structure beside the smallest possible heat sense.

Almost all the earlier flash-type sstems uses one linear Xenon lamp which resuts in a rectangular treatment area. It is typical of these systems that the emission of energy is larger at the central part of the lamp that at the edge therefore larger overlapping should be used during the treatments. The iPulse technology uses low energy twin Xenon lamps, which provide even energy distribution all over the large - 8.9 cm2 - treatment area, there is no loss at the edges therefore overlapping is not necessary which also results in smaller heat sense.
