REMOVAL OF TELEANGIECTASIAS FROM THE FACE

The illness

Dilatation of small vessels of the skin can present at any age. They mostly occur due to hereditary or endocrine causes. They can present in a single small group, these are usually harmless vascular or spider naevi .Another possible presentation is wide distribution mostly on the face and lower extremities.

Treatment options

Our clinic deals exclusively with treatment of dilated capillaries on the face for cosmetic reasons, The procedure is performed with a specialized radio wave device, developed solely for this purpose. By viewing color photos before surgery, the patient is able to see the probable outcome. For the benefit of the patient, our clinic offers trial of removal of teleangiectasias on a small surface free of charge, and if the patient is pleased with the result, he or she can arrange for surgery at a later time.

Preparation for surgery

The procedure is preceded in by examination by the specialist. Following the examination, the doctor informs the patient about the results of the examination, outlines the suggested treatment plan, informs about anesthesia, and home care. We then show pictures of the expected esthetic result. The surgery can be performed immediately following the examination and discussion, or it can be performed at a later time. Before surgery, the patient has to sign a consent form, which authorizes the clinic to perform the surgery.

The procedure

The procedure is not painful therefore even local anesthesia is not necessary. The patient experiences only minor pinches as we close the dilated capillaries with radio waves. We scan every broadened capillary with our narrow Wolfram electrode and the energy of the radio waves will close the vessels.

Possible complications

No doctor can guarantee a complication-free surgery. Complications can arise even following the most carefully performed procedures. The possible early complications: bleeding during and after surgery, inflammation, hardly ever occur since we work on the surface of the skin. Among the later complications re-appearance of teleangiectasias deserves mention. These are in fact not real complications since all the dilated capillaries were occluded during the procedure. With passing of the years however new teleangiectasias may develop that can only be removed with new intervention.

Postoperative care

The face will be slightly swollen and red for a couple of days following surgery. The patients should wash their face with lukewarm Chamomille tea 2-3 times a day.Since the procedure is performed with the least amount of energy to prevent damage to the skin, and avoid scaring, 15-20 % of the closed capillaries might re-open. Therefore, in order to attain the final result, according to our experience, a repeat procedure is necessary after 3-4 weeks. The one month follow-up after this usually provides satisfying results, and it is very rare that further correction is needed at that point. The corrective procedures following the initial surgery are of course under warrantee and free. Fairly often, dilated larger capillaries form confluent red spots on the two cheeks. These can not be wholly eliminated, just the smaller capillaries within them. However, frequently even that is enough to improve on the esthetic result. Removal dilated capillaries from the skin is very advantageous cosmetically.
